Indra Jātrā, most commonly known as Yenyā is the biggest religious street festival in Kathmandu. The celebrations consist of two events, Indra Jātrā and Kumāri Jātrā. Indra Jatra is one of the oldest festival celebrated in Kathamndu which was started by King Gunakamadeva to commemorate the founding of the Kathmandu city in the 10th century.Kumari Jatra began in the mid-18th century. The celebrations are held according to the local calander so the dates are changeable.
This year this fesival takes place on 13 September. The main venue of the festival is Kathmandu Durbar square.
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu. (. /. / D)
Meet and assistance by Loyal representative, transfer to hotel.
Day 2: In Kathmandu (B/L/ D)
Early morning mountain flight (optional) which offers the magnificent panoramas over the Himalayas including Everest. Back to hotel for breakfast. PM: Explore Kathmandu. Visit Kumari house, Kasthamandap, freak street and other historical monuments in Kathmandu Durbar Square. visit Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) which is one of the most beautiful UNESCO site in Kathmandu.
AM: visit hindu temple of Budhanilkantha (sleeping Vishnu) then drive to Patan. PM: visit craft city of Patan. Visit Patan Durbar Square, Museum, golden temple and several other monuments in the old city. Overnight in Patan.
Day 3: In Kathmandu (B/L/ D)
AM: visit Boudhnath, the biggest Buddhist stupa in Nepal. Visit Pashupatinath temple, Nepal’s biggest hindu temple. Lunch at Bhaktapur. PM: visit Bhaktapur city. Visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Nyatapola temple, pottery square etc. overnight at Bhaktapur.
Day 4: Nagarkot (B/L/ D)
Drive to Changunarayan. Visit changunarayan village and temple. 2 hrs walk to Telkot. Drive to Nagarkot (1 hr). Overnight at Nagarkot.
Day 5: Nagarkot – Dhulikhel (B/L/ D)
Early morning wake up to see sunrise over the Himalayas. 4 hrs trek to Nala. Visit typical Newar village of Nala. Drive to Dhulikhel. Visit old city of Dhulikhel. Overnight at Dhulikhel.
Day 6: Dhulikhel – Namobuddha (B/L/ D)
Walk to Namobuddha. 3 hrs. Visit Buddhist monasteries. Dinner and overnight at a Buddhist monastery at Namobuddha.
Day 7: Namobuddha – Hatiban (B/L/ D)
Walk (1 hr) from Namobuddha. Drive to Panauti. Visit Panauti including its Ghats, temples, rivers and old town. Drive to Hatiban resort.
Day 8: Kathmandu (B/L/ D)
Visit Dakshinkali temple which is famous for offering animal sacrifices by hindus. Visit Pharping villages and its monasteries including Vajrayogini temple. PM: Chovar and Kirtipur. Evening: Free time in Thamel tourist center for shopping and roaming around. Dinner at Thamel. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 9: Departure transfer to the airport. (B/. /.)
Free till departure. Timely transfer to the airport to connect international flight.
